Growing in Faith

We believe God calls us to grow. At the heart of this is our need to grow in our knowledge of and love for him. We try to provide plenty of opportunities for us to do this, including regular home groups for fellowship and study, occasional short courses on a variety of themes (including a Lent Course in the spring), occasional lectures, quiet days and special weekends. We are sure that you will find something here that connects with you. 

Community  

We have many groups and activities meeting in the parish that foster a sense of fellowship and community, such as

The Men’s and Women’s Breakfasts, various dates during the year at the Lido Café next to the open air pool where you can enjoy a delicious cooked breakfast, listen to an interesting speaker, enjoy good company and reflect on a topic of interest.  

The Lighthouse Café at St Nicholas’ Church, a community hub which is open every Thursday from 2-4pm selling delicious home-made cakes and offering a place to meet friends and if you need it, a listening ear.
The parish has a branch of the Mothers’ Union which meets twice monthly. For more information please contact Anne Lewins on 01275 847205

Regular social events such as Tea, Coffee & Company and a walk around the Marina are also organised. Please contact the office or see the noticesheet to find out more.

Home Groups

Our Home Groups are a valued part of our shared church life. These small informal gatherings are a good way of getting to know other people, of enjoying fun and fellowship together and provide a safe place to explore the Christian Faith, pray together and support one another. 
 
We are fortunate to have a number of Home Groups meeting on different days and at different times in the parish. Each group is slightly different in style and approach but they all offer an informal and relaxed atmosphere in which to nurture your faith.
 
If you are not already part of a Home Group may we invite you to consider joining one? If the group that you are looking for does not yet exist then speak to us and we will see what we can do!

Music

Music plays an important part in the life of our church, embracing both traditional and contemporary music. The parish has two choirs and a music group and you would be very welcome to get involved.

The Music Group, under the direction of Cathy Jackson, plays at the 9.15 God's Family at Worship service at St Peter’s, using mainly modern songs of worship. The group practises on Wednesdays.  

St Peter’s Choir under the direction of Andrew Curtis practises on Friday evenings at 7.30pm and sings for Sung Eucharist at 11.15am and Sung Evensong at 6pm (5pm in winter) at St Peter’s.   

St Nicholas’ Choir under the direction of Roy Jukes rehearses on Thursdays at 7.30pm and sings at 9.30am Communion Service at St Nicholas’.

Both choirs and members of the music group are available to sing at weddings and often perform concerts and lead worship on other special occasions. They are also known for their social get togethers!

Church Bells

St Peter’s Church has a ring of eight bells, six of which were installed in 1743, with the two trebles added in 1900. We have a thriving band of ringers and aim to ring every Sunday from 10.30am to 11.15am. We are available to ring, if required, for weddings and other celebrations and, if requested by the family, for funerals.

We practise on Tuesdays from 7.30pm until 9pm and enjoy various social events throughout the year associated with ringing.  

We are always happy to welcome newcomers – whether ringers or not – we will teach new ringers from the age of 10 to 110!
